In this help article we will show you how to set up a PhotoSpring digital photo frame as a gift under the following scenarios:
- You don't have the frame with you. If you sent the frame to the gift recipient but still want to set it up as a gift, then this article is exactly what you need.
- You have the frame in your possession, but you don't want to open the box. If you are ok with opening the box then you can save your gift recipient an extra step in this process. Proceed here: Open Box Gift Setup
Why Setup as a Gift?
Setting the frame up as a gift gives you the following features:
- Include a gift message with the frame that the recipient will see
- Include a gift photo with the frame that will be seen with the gift message
- Pre-load photos to the frame. These photos will download once the recipient has finished setting up their frame
Register your gift
Go to share.photospring.com/gift
We need the following information:
- Your name - this will identify you when you load photos or when you invite others to contribute photos
- Your email - we need to confirm a valid email address and send you a link to your gift
- The Gift Recipient - we will use the name of the recipient as part of the gift process
Click the "I'm not a robot" checkbox. You may be asked to complete some task to prove your humanity. After passing this test click Submit. We will send an email to the email address you provided.
Read the email carefully and then click on the Setup Your Gift button.
Important: do not delete this email. It is the only way for you to go back to the gift to make changes, load photos or invite others.
Setup the Gift Message
After clicking on the link in the email above, you will be taken back to your browser where you will see a brief intro message.
Click Next to create a gift message and add a gift photo.
For the gift message, we have provided a generic message to get you started. You should definitely edit this message. Just tap on the Gift Message text to begin editing it.
When you are satisfied with your message click next. (Don't worry you can always edit this later).
Next, add a gift photo. If you are on a PC/Mac you can just drag and drop a photo into the grey space. Or you can tap on Add Photo to search your device's photos. You can use jpg, png or bmp type photos. No videos or GIF accepted here.We highly recommend a landscape oriented photo with a resolution greater than 1200 pixels wide and 800 pixels tall. This will look best on the frame.
The system will give you warnings if it finds anything suboptimal. Click on the warning to get further detail. In the example below, the photo selected was a portrait photo - which won't look as good on the screen. (Note: in 2025 we will allow you to crop photos prior to adding it to the gift message)
You can load a different photo anytime by clicking Add Photo.
In this example, we reloaded with a landscape photo.
When satisfied with the photo, click Next.
Preview the Gift Message
The next step will allow you to preview how the gift message will look on the frame. This is an approximation of how things will look.
Click Next to scroll through the preview. Or use the back button to make changes to your gift message or gift photo.
Save the Gift Code
After reviewing the Gift Message and Gift Photo in the previous step you will be taken to the Gift code screen. Please write this gift code down and give it to the gift recipient. This is how your gift message and any preloaded photos will be matched with the frame. In the example below, the gift code is XXXX. Your gift code will be different.
We suggest writing the gift code down as part of the card you present to the gift recipient. Or if you mail the frame, then you can send them an email before it arrives.
Create an Album and Add Photos
The next step is very important. The best gifts are ones that are preloaded with photos and videos!
Click on the Create Album button start create your first album.
Enter the name of the album and add photos.
Adding photos is a two step process. First you select photos by either a) tapping the Add button or b) dragging and dropping photos in the center of the photo field.
Once you are ready to put them into the album, you click the upload button. This pushes it up to our servers, ready for the frame to download when the time comes.
Once photos are uploaded you can see them in the Album screen being processed. You can upload more photos by clicking the Upload button, or exit the album by clicking the back button.
Invite People to Share (optional)
Exit the album you created above by pressing the back button.
You can invite others to share photos for the gift by pressing the Share button as shown below.
There are several ways to invite others to share photos.

| Print QR | get a QR code people can scan to access the gift |
Once people join the group you will see them listed as part of the group and they can begin to contribute photos.
What Will the Gift Recipient See?
When the gift recipient opens the box they will be asked to connect to wifi and install the latest software for the frame.
Once the latest software is installed the frame will reboot and the following is what your gift recipient will see:
They should tap the "Gift I Received" button. The next screen will ask for the gift code. This is the gift code you saved previously and gave them as part of the gift. Contact us if you don't have this and we can tell you how to find it.
Once they enter the gift code, the frame will download your gift message and photo.
After seeing your Gift message and Photo they can then finish setting up their frame. After the frame is setup, any photos that you preloaded for the frame are downloaded and they can start to enjoy their photos right away!

Gift Expiration
During Gift Setup, your uploaded photos are stored on our servers for roughly 80 days. During this 80 day period you can continue to upload photos by upload photos to the same gift link. When we reach 80 days, we will delete the gift group and all the photos contained inside. After 80 days if you still which to send photo to the frame then you can send photos to the frame via a PhotoSpring account.
The exact date the gift group will expire can be see, in the upper right corner of the gift home page. "Contents will be deleted MM/DD/YY".
