Introduction
PhotoSpring does not automatically store your photos in the cloud. We do this to protect the long term privacy of your photos and to avoid having to charge a subscription fee. In order to backup the photos/videos on your frame you can manually initiate a backup to a Google Photos account. The benefits of doing a backup are:
- You have the photos saved on Google in case something happens to your frame
- You can share these photos on Google with family and friends
- You can transfer photos on Google to a new PhotoSpring frame using our sync feature.
Instructions
Here's how to backup the photos to Google (and transfer them to a new frame if you desire)
- Click here for instructions on how to backup the old frame to a Google account. Depending on the number of photos you have and the speed of your Internet connection this might take hours or even a few days.
- If you want to migrate the photos to a new frame keep reading. Otherwise you are done
- Setup your new frame.
- Click here for instructions on how to sync the new frame to the same Google Photos account. This will pull photos from the Google backup you performed in step one above. If you are having issues with this please contact our support.
- Optional step:
- Step 2 above makes the new frame a cloud frame. With a cloud frame, all the photos that were sync'd from Google, will be controlled from Google. Also, any photos you add to your old frame will be backed up to Google and then downloaded to the new frame.
- If you don't want a cloud frame, then you can simply disconnect from Google. When you disconnect from Google you will be asked if you want to leave the photos on the frame or remove them. Make sure to keep them on the frame. Instructions for disconnecting can be found here.
Requirements:
- Both frames need to be connected to the Internet.
- You need to have a Google account. Preferably one where there are no photos in Google Photos. Go to https://photos.google.com (and login if necessary) to see if there are photos in your Google account. The old frame will be backing up photos here - so if you want to keep things clean we suggest that you start with an empty/new Google Photos account
- If you are transferring photos to a new frame, you will need to setup your new frame before you can sync it to a Google Photos account.
