At PhotoSpring, we have become aware of multiple companies selling digital frames for cheap. We believe buying one of these cheap frames is a risk for consumers on many levels. Not only are these frames poorly made but in order to sell them at reduced costs, a lot of the process to support these frames is done overseas in places like China, the Philippines, and India.
Here are a few reasons why you should not buy a digital frame that cuts significant corners.
PhotoSpring does not charge a subscription fee. Unlike our competitors, PhotoSpring does not charge a subscription fee to do basic things. Here are some basic features you get for free which competitors will charge for:
- Some competitors only allow you to send photos via email. In order to send photos via an app, you need to upgrade to a $30+ a year plan. Sending via email limits you to roughly 8-10 photos each time you email a frame due to restrictions imposed by the size of attachments by email providers.
- Some competitors have apps that limit you to sending 10 photos at a time or only one video at a time. To send more you have to upgrade to a subscription plan. With PhotoSpring you can send hundreds of photos at a time (as long as the total upload is less than 1GB)
- Almost all competitors put a restriction on video length and quality. Most have a 10-15 sec video restriction and if you upgrade to a subscription you get 20-30 second videos. The videos are also downgraded to much lower quality that displayed on screen. With PhotoSpring you can send a video that is up to 1GB in length and the quality is set to the high definition quality of our screens.
All of these restrictions are just to get you to upgrade to a yearly subscription plan - these are all hidden costs that you will end up paying for, or worse the person you are gifting a frame will have to pay for.
PhotoSpring is a US based company. We are headquartered in Los Angeles. When you call or email us, we will support you from our offices here in the United States. If you try to reach our competitors, they will respond from a foreign country in the middle of the night or not respond at all. If you are giving your frame as a gift to your parents or grand parents just imagine how difficult it will be for them to get support and have to deal with someone from another country. Not only will they have to deal with a time difference, there will be significant cultural differences and a language barrier they will have to deal with. Every time the PhotoSpring support team deals with customers, our goal is to make their day better.
Unfortunately, being based in the US also means we have higher costs and our staff will take the same Holidays work the same hours the majority of people in the US do.
PhotoSpring servers are located in the United States - mostly on the west coast. The photos you send to a PhotoSpring frame will never take a detour outside of the US and will only be stored only on US based servers which we maintain strict control of. The cheaper frames we have seen store your photos on servers in China, Indio or Eastern Europe to save on costs.
PhotoSpring stores your photos only long enough for your frame to download them. Once your frame downloads the photos, the photos will be deleted from our servers within 24 hours. If the frame does not download the photos after 30 days, the photos are automatically deleted (yes this means the photos need to be resent). Deleting photos from our servers removes the risks to your privacy and saves us the cost of storing your photos.
PhotoSpring frames come with a one year warranty. PhotoSpring has been in the business of making digital frames for over two decades. Competing frames that cost half as much are made with used parts and do not come with any warranty or support. If you try to reach these companies after a year most of them will either be out of business or not bother to respond to you at all.
You own the photos you send to your frame not us. This should go without saying but seems like other digital frame companies will claim some ownership of the photos and videos you send to their frames. PhotoSpring does not claim any ownership of your photos or videos. We do not make copies of your photos and we do not send them to third parties for processing.
