There are two main reasons why the storage on the frame you bought is different than the advertised storage.
Reason #1 - Computer Industry Standards
The computer storage industry reports storage sizes differently than what a computer uses to calculate actual storage sizes on the device.
When storage is advertised it is advertised using base 10. However, when a computer calculates storage it uses a base of 1024. The difference is a device will report about 70mb less storage for every 1gb.
Reason #2 - OS Size and Reserve Space
PhotoSpring uses about 5gb of space. 1gb is for working space to process videos and files after download. Another 2-5gb is used to the device operating system.
The chart below summarizes the difference between advertised storage and what you will find on the device.
Advertised Size | Computer Calculated Size | OS Size | Reserve | Reported Storage for New Frame |
16gb | 15gb | 2gb | 1gb | 12gb |
32gb | 30gb | 3gb | 1gb | 27gb |
64gb | 59.5gb | 4gb | 1gb | 54gb |
80gb | 74.5gb | 4gb | 1gb | 69gb |
