Note: An updated method for setting up a PhotoSpring frame as a gift is available here. This new gift setup process allows you to include a gift message and gift photo - as well as preload photos onto the frame without opening the box.
If you follow the steps below you will essentially be setting up the frame for the gift recipient - which may make sense if you think the recipient cannot do the setup themselves. |
A PhotoSpring digital picture frame makes a great gift on its own but personalizing the frame makes it even better.
In this help article we are going to go over the following features that make your gift more personal:
- Setting up the frame as a gift
- Sending photos to the frame
- Scheduling photos
- Connecting to Wifi after gifting
Setting the Frame Up As a Gift
The steps to setup the frame are the same whether you give it as a gift or whether you set it up for yourself. However there are a few notes you should be aware of:
- During setup, when asked for the owner name and email you should use the gift recipients name and email. Don't worry about inadvertently tipping off the owner. We know people give our frames as gifts so all emails going to the owner are temporarily suspended for 30 days.
- During setup, you'll be asked if you want to turn on the frame email feature - which allows you to email photos to the frame. We recommend setting turning on this email feature and giving the frame's email address to the friends and family of the gift recipient. They can help you contribute photos to the frame. The frame email address should be something easy to remember and pertinent to the gift recipient.
- During setup you'll be asked if you want to connect a new or existing PhotoSpring account to the frame. Setting up an account will allow you to:
- send hundreds of photos to the frame at a time
- send videos up to 1gb in size
- schedule photos to arrive up to 3 months in the future
Note: If you do setup an account please use your own name and email address since this will be your account - not the gift recipient's account.
Sending Photos to the Frame
Once you have gone through setup the frame is now ready to accept photos. The two simplest ways to load photos to the frame are:
- Email photos to the frame's email address as attachments. If you didn't assign the frame with its own email address during setup here's how you do it after setup.
- Email is good for sending less than 10 photos at a time to the frame. Most email systems don't accept more than 20-25mb worth of attachments - so that's around 10 photos. If you plan on loading hundreds of photos or large videos then use the Web Uploader. The web uploader requires that you create a PhotoSpring account. You should use your own name and email address for this account.
Scheduling Photos
Rather than loading all the photos onto the frame at once, some people really like to surprise the gift recipient by sending photos to the frame on a schedule up to 3 months in advance. Scheduling photos to arrive is great in the following ways:
- You can avoid missing an important birthday or anniversary by scheduling photo(s) to arrive on a specific day.
- People love to get photos on their frames. Gift recipients will no doubt be calling you out of the blue asking when the next set of photos will arrive. You can give the gift recipient something to look forward to each day by schedule 1-5 photos to arrive in advance.
After Gifting
When the gift recipient receives the frame they should connect the frame to wifi.
Additionally they may also want to do the following:
